Earl L. Edmondson started Central Food Service Inc. in June 1960. He bought out Cobb's Locker Plant at 116 Cherry St. in Suffolk, Va. He continued to offer lockers for people to keep their foods in, sold wholesale & retail meats and provisions, and ran a Freezer Food Plan business. Central had many customers and a staff of salesman and many delivery trucks. Mr. Edmondson and his staff worked many long and hard days and even nights, running a second shift for a while. He and his wife Ernestine raised a family of 2 girls and 1 boy: Laura, Janice and Richard. All of his children and his wife worked for the company at one time or another. Richard started working full time for the company at age 18 after attending high school. The State Highway Department decided to build an overpass over our location in Suffolk in 1972. The Company sold the land and building and bought Meixels Meats the same year. We started a major improvement to our new site, adding a new building, freezer, cooler, offices, and retail space. We moved all the equipment, merchandise and employees we could to this new location and started operating in June 1972. We changed the name to Central Meats Inc. soon thereafter and have been doing business as such since.
We Started Almost Catered by Central in 1990 and it has been a big success.
Our strategy for meeting the competition is lower price, better quality and superior service. We try never to say no to a customer, only Yes, Yes, Yes!
